About the Award 

Mahathir Mohamad Award for Intellectual Creativity 2020 is one of the annual activities organized by Kuala Lumpur Forum for Thought and Civilization that aims to encourage research and intellectual creativity in core issues and serious problems concerning the Islamic Ummah and the world. The Award focuses on major topics handled by the Forum. It has three categories: Top Award (major), Youth Award (minor), and Female Researchers Award (minor). 

The Forum seeks to promote research that links findings with current overriding needs. Such research activities provide valuable recommendations that practically and comprehensively tackle the serious issues of the world and encapsulates the conclusions of human creativity and social research approaches, while adhering to the standard of civilization of the Ummah. 

Award Objectives

The objectives of the Award are: 

  1. To serve the intellectual vision and mission of Kuala Lumpur Forum for Thought and Civilization. 
  2. To honor creative and distinguished scholars in the Ummah, like Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, by naming the Award after them. 
  3. To encourage male and female researchers and honor scholars and intellectuals of the Ummah.
  4. To place intellectuals and scholars under the spotlight by highlighting their scientific achievements. 
  5.  To contribute to building up an intellectual system that actively and effectively contributes to tackling the issues of the Ummah.
  6. To encourage the youth and females to carry out research that handles the intellectual issues of the Ummah. 
  7. To contribute to building up the capacities of the elites who address the major questions and problems of the Ummah. 
  8. To contribute to networking the intellectuals and scholars of the Ummah and establish good ties facilitating their cooperation.

According to the guidelines and the proposed topics

Eligibility Criteria 

 The eligibility criteria for the Award are: 

  1. A candidate should hold an academic degree.
  2. A candidate should fill in the application form in which s/he should provide personal information and a 500-word abstract that highlights the problem, objectives, and methodology followed.

  4. A candidate should apply individually.
  5. The researcher should be committed to research standards and meet the deadlines of the Award. 
  6. The research paper should NOT be published or have been submitted to another conference, journal, or similar activity. 
  7. The paper size should be 29,7/21; the font is Traditional Arabic; the font size is 16; the margin is 2.5 cm on each side. The candidate should attach the CV with the research paper. 
  8. The minimum word count for the Major Award is (28) thousand words and (20) thousand words for the minor awards. 
  9. A candidate for the Youth Award should be 30 or younger.
  10. The research paper should be either in Arabic or in English. 
  11. The panel has the right to publish good-quality but non-winning research papers in a special journal on the condition that the researcher does all changes and modifications suggested by the referees.  A $ 100, softcopy of the research paper published in the special journal, and a hardcopy of the journal will be granted to these researchers to encourage them. 

Application and refereeing process 

  1. The committee receives the application forms via the link published for this purpose with the candidate’s CV attached to the application.
  2. The application form should include a 500-word abstract. 
  3. Candidates submit research papers according to the timetable and by the deadlines via email. Then, research papers will be coded and submitted to the panel to start the refereeing process. 
  4. Previous winners are not eligible to apply for a second time. 
  5. The results will be announced according to the timetable of the Award on the Forum’s website and social media pages, the website of Diae Conferences and Research Center, and other outlets. 
  6. The Award may be granted in half to two candidates or more or not be granted to any in case academic research standards are not met. 
  7. Kuala Lumpur Forum owns the intellectual property of the winning and good-quality research papers that will be printed out in the special journal.

  • An honorary shield and an appreciation certificate for every winner. 
  • First Award: $ 3000 
  • Second Award: $ 2000
  • Third Award: $ 1000
  1. Two Minor Awards for youth and female candidates 
  • An honorary shield and an appreciation certificate for every winner. 
  • $ 2000 to each

28 April 2020               Announcing the Award and the start date to receive abstracts 

10 June 2020               the deadline to submit abstracts 

10 October 2020         the deadline to submit research papers 

1 December 2020        Finalizing the refereeing process and announcing winners
